Another top tennis day at Southsea

Friendly matches with other local clubs are rarely friendlier or more fun than when Fishbourne travels 10 miles west to take on Southsea…and this year’s annual meeting of the two clubs proved the point. Shame that out of a club membership of 180 we could only field 10 players instead of the required 12 though!…

Sunday with our friends from the South(sea)

Fishbourne Tennis Club hosted Southsea on Sunday 19 November for the latest round in our ongoing series of friendlies which never fail to provide lots of laughs and plenty of enjoyable tennis. This time it was no different, helped by kind weather and five-game sets (with plenty of 10-point championship tiebreaks at 2-2!) that gave…

Tennis and tea in the Southsea sunshine

Far and away the most enjoyable friendly competition Fishbourne is involved in – that’s the club’s regular encounter with Southsea Tennis Club. This summer’s visit to Clarence Esplanade on Sunday 20 August coincided with sunny dry weather and high spirits all round, with eager anticipation not just for some cracking first-to-four-games matches but also for the famous Southsea tea in…

Lila would have been proud of us!

On Monday 7 December, a group of Fishbourne ladies got together with eight ladies from the Harbour Way club in order to play some competitive tennis in memory of our good friend Lila Monk and to raise money for St Wilfred’s Hospice. (We raised £250). We were blessed with the weather, the sun shone, the tennis was…

116 games later…it’s a draw!

Fishbourne took on Southsea Tennis Club in a return match in Blackboy Lane on Sunday 22 November. The morning went very well (writes FTC team captain Lesley Kelly). Everyone enjoyed playing in the sunshine, which kept us warm in the cold snap. We were lucky we got the four courts, court number one was booked out,…
