The draw for Wimbledon might have made the headlines but it was the selection of players and partners for the 2014 annual tournament at Fishbourne that captured members’ attention.
Tournament organiser Roy Hay reported entry levels on a par with last year. A few new faces will be taking part in the singles and doubles competition with first round games scheduled for early July.
A provisional date of Sunday 6th September has been chosen as Finals Day and preparations are under way to attract more players and spectators to this event with the promise of keenly-contested games, refreshments and a social afterwards.
It is also hoped that we will be able to stage the finals of a junior tournament as a further inducement to encourage the youngsters within the club.
The defending champions are: Andre Rogers and Katy Bracher in the singles, Sue Lord and Tim Friesner in the mixed, Angie Hall and Shaz Morris and Dave Hatch and Duncan Stewart in the doubles.
Full details of the draw and the timings for each round are on the website under the Tournament 2014 tab.
There’s also a chart on the pavilion noticeboard to enable players to follow progress.
Good luck to every entrant and let’s have a tournament to remember.
