More great news for Fishbourne in the LTA Sussex league competition, with a 4.0 win at Horsham!
James Course, Tom Craddock , Phil Tite and Chris Gosden made the trip up to Horsham to contest the match – on their grass courts! Beautiful weather meant for a great morning’s tennis, made even better by Horsham’s welcoming and warm nature.
James (pictured, limbering up) and Tom partnered together won their first match 6-4 6-4, a great start considering they had to get used to the ball bouncing lower and skidding through on the grass. Chris and Phil also won their first match 6-3 6-4 in a tight contest with only three breaks of serve, Chris’s big serving setting up Phil at the net proved to be the decisive tactic.
James, and Tom won their second match 6-1 6-2, really getting into their stride on the grass, Tom’s big serving – 10 aces by end of play – and James’ consistent baseline hitting meant they ran out comfortable winners.
Chris and Phil won their second match 6-1 6-0, thanks to some aggressive play from Phil at the net (a couple of Becker like dives!) More big serving from Chris meant they managed to get the bagel in the last set, meaning Fishbourne’s young guns were 4-0 worthy winners.
Horsham kindly laid on lunch which we ate whilst watching a spot of cricket, as you do!
We are now sitting in second place in our division with three players (Phil, Chris and Tom) leading the individual rankings within the division!
Great work guys!
