Dear Fishbourne Tennis Club member,

Welcome to the latest regular email update of the exciting things happening at your tennis club.

2015 Championships now underway!

…with some nail-biting matches and very close results!   Remember that preliminary and first round matches must be played by mid-July. The Draw for the Mixed Doubles Plate Competition can then be made. Remember the fixtures list is both on the noticeboard in the clubhouse and on the website at www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk/who-will-you-be-playing-in-the-championships-this-year/

It’s being held on Sunday morning July 26 09.30 start. sign up in the clubhouse – first 26 players (be quick, places are filling up fast), or just sign up for refreshments. It will be a great day!

Sussex Tennis Leagues update

Our teams are learning fast during their inaugural season of playing in the summer Sussex Leagues. But summer’s not going to last forever and (sorry about this…) winter is on the horizon – and with it a whole new season of tennis competition for FTC!  You can be part of it – let us know soon if you want to play in the Winter league (or indeed next year’s Summer leagues) or come along to a team practice session every Sunday between 9am and 11am. Volunteers are needed to captain the Sussex winter leagues teams – Mens Over 45 Doubles, and Mixed (for Men over 45 Ladies over 40) Doubles. Have fun, play your best and meet players from other clubs!  Please contact Luke McEwen for the men’s vets and David Holmes for the mixed vets.

How to organise a regular game outside club sessions?

For many new members especially, it can be tricky organising a regular game outside club sessions. That’s why on the club’s smart new noticeboards (take a bow Jim!) you can now add your name and preferred playing time to a list for fellow members to see. Idea is others will get in touch, for singles or doubles, and hey presto: you’ve got a game!  One thing: don;t forget to book your court! Fishbourne Tennis Club: bringing people together!

What’s new on the website?

Check out www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk for all the latest from the club, including a report from Chris Gosden about FTC’s fine victory against Billingshurst, and picture galleries of our members playing in both croquet and lawn bowls competitions against our  Fishbourne neighbours. Worth it just to see Trevor launching a wood with all the power of his first serve!
