Dear Fishbourne Tennis Club member,
Welcome to the latest regular email update of the exciting things happening at your tennis club.
American Tournament 16 August
A Sunday morning of social tennis fun followed by strawberries and cream is the offer for the next American Tournament on 16 August. Sign up now on the notice in the clubhouse if not already taking part; remember places are limited so be quick. You can of course just come to watch and have the strawberries (but still sign up please). Poor weather on 26 July meant the last American had to be cancelled. The next American Tournament after this is Sunday 18 October.
New balls please
A timely reminder from the committee (and Katie, who actually does all the work) that the tubes of balls in the clubhouse cupboard are for use by club members during club sessions only. These balls are replaced regularly and must not be mixed up with the basket of practice balls, or with members’ own balls. The practice balls can be used by members at any time. Please ensure the basket is returned to the clubhouse storage area after use.
Jean joins the committee
The committee is delighted (and also just a little nervous) to report that Jean has agreed to join the FTC committee. Since Angie stood down, there has been no female committee member, and changing that has been a priority of the club for a while. Jean was invited to attend a meeting for a look-see, and she liked it so much she has decided to stay. Already Jean has shown how much she has to contribute while taking absolutely no nonsense form anyone!
Christmas party is on Saturday 5 December
Something Jean has already volunteered for is to sound out members about the Christmas party this year. The hall at the Fishbourne Centre has been booked, all we need to do now is decide the theme, entertainment and food. Barn dance? Casino night? Live band? Hog roast? Paella? What would you like? Let Jean, or any committee member, know…and most important, write Saturday 5 December in your diary.
Volunteers needed for Finals Day
Are you able to lend a hand to ensure the smooth running of Finals Day (5 September) this year? Line callers, scorers, ball boys and girls and catering helpers are all needed, along with a bit of muscle on set-up day (Friday 4 September) to arrange the flags/seats/marquee. Adults and juniors able to help out please let a committee member know.
2015 Ronnie Ray Championships update
Holidays and wet weather have recently delayed some matches but overall the tournament is progressing well, with Finals Day (5 September) now only four weeks away. If you are behind with your matches please ensure they are played as soon as possible.
Golden congratulations to Peggy and Peter
Fishbourne Tennis Club is delighted to have had the opportunity on behalf of all club members to send a bouquet of flowers to Peggy and Peter on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. Many congratulations from us all!
