After another successful season the Fishbourne Men’s 1st (only) team in the Sussex League tournament have reached the lofty heights of division 11.
Chris Gosden, after doing a sterling job in establishing the team and leading it to promotion, has handed the captaincy to me, Phil Tite, for this season and I would like to know if anyone is interested in joining our merry band of tennis players. It is for men of any age.
League tennis isn’t nearly as scary as it sounds…honest!
It is a good way to get some extra tennis in against players from other clubs in West Sussex. The standard of play varies and, last season, we played against opponents from age 14 to….I wouldn’t like to say.
There are normally six fixtures, a mixture of home and away, played on Saturdays or Sundays, over a five month period.
On the day, each team brings four players to make two doubles teams each. You would play two doubles matches, both best of three sets, but in the case of a match being one set all, a 10 point tie-break is played instead of a third set, ensuring no one gets too tired.
Everyone is always very friendly. It’s a great way of meeting new people and playing at other clubs, and we often get a nice bit of food too.
I would love to know of anyone who would like to be considered for the team. You wouldn’t be expected to be available for all of the fixtures. You can put your name forward for as many or as few as you like.
If you would like to have a hit with a couple of players who have taken part before and have a chat please come down to the club on Sunday 9th October from 9am onwards. Alternatively, please contact Phil Tite at
[email protected]
Dates are subject to change but at the moment the fixtures are as follows:
Saturday 22 October (away)
Sunday 6 November (away)
Sunday 11 December (home)
Saturday 14 January (away)
Sunday 22 January (home
Many thanks and I hope to hear from you or see you at the club soon.
Phil Tite, FTC men’s Sussex League Captain
