FTC ‘goes green’ for an afternoon with the neighbours

The FTC versus Fishbourne Bowls Cub match is becoming something of an annual tradition – quite right too since it makes for a fun afternoon, and we don’t exactly have far to travel…

This year’s friendly on Sunday 24 July enjoyed decent weather, a good turnout and even some close “ends”, certain tennis players showing they are just as adept on the green as they are on court.

Several members of FTC also belong to the bowls club and, as bowls club chairman Bernard told us at the after-match tea, more are always welcome to join. One of the FTC members didn’t waste a second in taking him up on the offer. Good luck Shaz!

FTC members taking part in the match were: Lesley Kelsall, Trevor and Katy Bracher, Roy and June Hay, Derek Nordern, Nikki Holden, Bob and Lyn Murray, Peter and Jennifer McLarens, and Shaz Morris.

We were matched with an equal number of players from the bowls club who kindly gave up their Sunday afternoon to play with us. Their guidance and advice was as always invaluable, even if some of us did need to be told several times before it sunk in which way the woods’ bias made them roll!

A very convivial tea in the bowls club’s smart clubhouse followed the match and there was a raffle too – first ticket drawn out by Bob, first prize winner: Bob. And no it definitely wasn’t a fix…

Many thanks to all at the bowls club who provided such an enjoyable afternoon, and here’s hoping we can do it again. Meantime, any FTC members who want to try their hand at bowls should seek out Bernard who would be delighted to help.
