The club’s recruitment drive for 20 new members in 2020 gets fully underway on Saturday 16 May. If you have ideas about how to make this a super-success, or are happy to help on the day, please get in touch with any committee member.
Members who get a friend to join the club for the full year 2020/21 can claim a special discount on their subscription in a new scheme as part of the club’s 2020 recruitment drive. More details with your upcoming rmembership renewal.
Members who would like to get more involved in the running of the club are asked to come forward with a view to joining the committee. There are lots of ways members can use their skills and contribute to the success of the club, and they need not be onerous. Contrary to what you may think, there is only one meeting lasting an hour and half every six weeks or so.
The club’s annual meeting and Wimbledon ticket ballot will be held this year in the Fishbourne Centre on Wednesday 22 April and all members are urged to attend. Decisions to be taken include important information about your annual subscription charges.
The club in association with coaching partner Generation Tennis is pleased to confirm that the popular informal coaching sessions with head coach Alex are back for 2020 – a unique member benefit unavailable at other tennis clubs. As before the drop-in sessions are held between 3-4pm during the club session which carries on as normal. Members of all ages and abilities are invited to take part, and rusty racquets and new members are especially welcome. You just have to turn up and join in, with no booking or commitment required.
Alex will be on court for you between 3-4pm on the following Wednesdays:
· 29 January
· 12 February
· 26 February
· 4 March
· 18 March
· 1 April
Your tennis club is constantly responding to members’ needs in order to keep moving forward. Recent or planned works include moving the practice wall (to avoid the southern end of the court staying damp and slippery, and to avoid ball bounce-back), the installation of sensor lights around the clubhouse, repairs to the fencing and drainage on court 1, and the weeding and rabbit-proofing of court 2. If any members want to help with club maintenance please contact any committee member.
Mondays, 5-9pm, club play with matchplay practice
Wednesdays, 1-5pm club play with free adult coaching 3-4pm (selected dates only)
Thursdays, 5-9pm, club play all courts
Saturdays, 9-1pm, club play all courts
Sundays, 1-5pm, club play all courts
It’s time to tick the box on the LTA website so the club again gets its maximum allocation of tickets to Wimbledon in 2020. You MUST do this before 14 February. Don’t forget, you have to be a paid-up member of FTC and a registered adult or junior British Tennis Member (it’s free) linked to Fishbourne Tennis Club. Then you can go to the LTA website and check the box that says you want to opt-in to the Wimbledon ballot. You have to do this every year. It’s worth doing even if you can’t make Wimbledon this year since the more people who opt in the larger our allocation will be. See the LTA’s FAQs for more information. Log in to the LTA’s Member’s Area here.
