Spring newsletter

Dear Fishbourne Tennis Club member,

Welcome to the latest regular email update of the exciting things happening at your tennis club.

Sunday match play practice off to strong start

FTC’s current and future match players report that the new Sunday morning practice session has been a useful addition to the club calendar. ‘It’s proving a great opportunity for our ever-increasing band of LTA match players to practise together,’ said men’s doubles captain Luke McEwen. The trial period has now come to an end but it is likely to start again soon. Meantime, a Generation Tennis tournament means there will be no practice session this Sunday (7 June). Watch this space for news of when it starts up again.

Victory in LTA tennis league

Take a bow Andre and Tom, Chris and Phil – they recorded the club’s win in the LTA Sussex League! They took on Arundel TC in the men’s doubles, and after some very close tennis emerged the victors three matches to one. For a full report, plus updates on other league, friendly and junior matches, see the website: www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk/news/

Manners maketh the tennis player!

FTC has published its first ‘Guide to Player Etiquette’ which the committee hopes will provide new members especially with an overview of the way we like our tennis in Fishbourne. At the same time it might clear up some of those ‘grey areas’ that even some long-standing members seem to have trouble remembering sometimes!  Court bookings, mobile phone usage, dogs on court and more are all covered. See the full guide on the website at, www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk/ftc-publishes-first-guide-to-player-etiquette/

Open Day 2015 voted big success

A huge turn-out, loads of tennis activities, masses of cakes and perfect weather all came together at the Open Day. Several new members were signed up and Generation Tennis reported lots of interest in their coaching and Cardio classes. It was also the first outing for the smart new FTC banner flags which helped put the club on the map. There’s a full report and picture gallery, plus winners of the fastest serve competition, on the website at www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk/open-day-picture-gallery-here/

Croquet/lawn bowls update

The croquet evening is now full – 16 FTC members will be hoping to jump (or at least hit a ball…) through hoops on Friday evening June 19. They have all been emailed separately so will by now know who they are. For our ‘match’ against Fishbourne Lawn Bowls Club on Sunday June 21 there are however places still available. Twelve members have so far put their names down so if you want to join in this fun event (with all equipment and tuition provided) get your name down quick in the clubhouse. The cost is just £2 a head and includes tea in the bowls pavilion as well as a raffle!

American Tournament now full – but bbq still open!

A maximum 26 members have signed up now for the American Tournament on Sunday June 14. If you are keen to take part talk to Roy and there might be a cancellation. But if not, still come along, watch the action and enjoy the first of the year’s barbecues! At just £3 a head and Trevor in charge of the tongs, what’s not to like?

2015 Fishbourne Championships

The draw for the FTC Championships has now taken place and the fixtures list is both on the noticeboard in the clubhouse and on the website at www.fishbournetennisclub.org.uk/who-will-you-be-playing-in-the-championships-this-year/

And finally….

Don’t forget that live tennis from the French Open is being  shown every day free of charge on ITV 4. Good luck Andy, Kyle and Heather!
