FTC Championships 2015 entry details announced

Entries are now invited for the Fishbourne Tennis Club Championships 2015. This year’s Championships will celebrate the great contribution to our Club by Ronnie Ray who sadly died a few weeks ago.

The Championships this year will comprise men’s and ladies’ singles, men’s doubles, ladies’ doubles, mixed doubles and junior singles for 12-13 and 14-16 age groups (age by August 31, 2015). All FTC members and junior members are eligible to take part.

There will be a Championships Plate competition for first round doubles losers (just to prolong the agony!). More details about this to be announced soon.

In an important change for 2015, for the doubles events, players are able to enter as a doubles pair – giving you plenty of time to practise together.  However, if you prefer to have a partner drawn at random as in previous years you can. A draw for pairings will take place in the normal way.  This year’s entries will be organised to ensure as close a competition as possible.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Most important: make sure you are free on Saturday 5 September for FINALS DAY. All finals matches will be played on this day without exception (weather permitting). If rained off, Finals Day will move to Sunday 6 September.

Decide which tournaments you wish to enter. If playing doubles, choose your partner, or state if you prefer to be drawn a partner. Enter your name(s) on the attached form or on the list in the pavilion – and start practising!

The deadline for entries is 20 April and an order of play will be published at the end of April.

There are no set dates for matches to be played – these can be arranged for times that suit competitors (not within club sessions). However, the following deadlines should be noted (subject to change depending on number of entries):

  • All first and second round matches to be completed by the middle of June
  • Quarter-finals completed by the middle of July
  • Semi-finals by the end of August.

The entry fee per person per event is £3 and this must be paid (by cheque, online, or placed in the pavilion safe with completed entry form) before any matches are played. There is no entry fee for Juniors or for the Plate Competition.

The FTC Committee urges all players of all abilities to take part in this year’s Championships to be played in honour of the memory of Ronnie Ray and the great contribution he made to our Club.

Each event will play the best of three sets with a tie break played if 6-6 is reached in each set.

Good luck and let’s make these the best FTC Championships ever!
